Kitchen Design Plus Holds First Project Playhouse Build Event

On October 18th, local kitchen and bath remodelers Kitchen Design plus teamed up with the Maumee valley Habitat for Humanity to host a “Project Playhouse” build and fundraiser event. Employees, volunteers and the general public were all invited to participate in the fun filled day of food, games and family activities. The program is part of Habitat’s recent efforts to engage more local businesses on small scale projects.

Members of Kitchen Design Plus teamed up with other local area volunteers to build a custom playhouse for an under-privileged Toledo family. The playhouse, which was custom decorated according to the daughter’s requests, took nearly all day to complete, but was a hit with both kids and parents alike.

“It takes a lot of little houses to build the big houses” said KDP owner Pat McKimmy, who had been looking for ways to partner with the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. He saw this as a perfect opportunity to pitch in and do KDP’s part for a family in need. “We really love the idea of encouraging kids to see the value in homeownership, to see it as their place and their space, from an early age.”

“It was so much fun!” shared Paula Cook, one of KDPs design consultants and their events coordinator. “We had a great turn out, and it was amazing to see everyone on the team pitch in and help with the construction and painting. Not only was it a fun teambuilding activity, but we got to do something great for someone who can really benefit from your efforts.”

“Seeing the look on her face when we delivered the finished Playhouse was worth it all.” Pat continued, describing the moment that the family saw the playhouse for the first time. “Kallie was so excited, and it makes all the planning and hard work that went into this event worth it.”
